Abstract
For detection of blood in urine, the benzidine test and Occultest were compared with microscopy as a standard method. Urines from 107 patients (128 samples), 20 presumably normal urines and suspensions of blood in urine and physiological saline were examined. The experiments indicate that Occultest has fewer sources of error than the benzidine test. With 1% benzidine solution the sensitivity is almost the same as for Occultest. None of the chemical tests can be used for quantitative determinations of hematuria.
