Abstract
Theory and practical details are presented of a method of dealing with the problem of obliquely incident beams of 60Co radiation. The theory is essentially a generalised version of the “tumour-air-ratio” concept, which could be called the “depth dose-air dose-ratio” principle. In clinical practice, one compensator for an angle of incidence in the range 22–37 deg. and one for the range 38–52 deg. are sufficient for field sizes up to 12 × 12 cm.
