Abstract
The system described is an inexpensive mechanism for information retrieval. It uses no elaborate equipment and has a capacity adequate for a personal reprint collection or card file. Items are classified by the subjects to which they refer. One punch card represents a single such subject. The holes in each card represent the items classified under that subject. Items are retrieved by the coincidence of holes in a stack of cards representing the subjects to be retrieved simultaneously. Subjects can be combined or subdivided at any time without interfering with retrieval even during the time the changes are being made. When set up as directed, the system is easy to check for errors. Errors, even in punch cards, are easily corrected. Keywords
