Crosstalk measurements for a dual emitter laser

Abstract
An independently controllable dual emitter laser has been fabricated. The lasers are of buried heterostructure type, are closely spaced (∼5μm), emit in a single wavelength with one facet antireflection coated, and utilise semi-insulating Fe doped InP layers for current confinement, optical confinement and separating the two emitters. Optical and electrical crosstalk between the lasers is found to be negligible for digital transmission systems operating at data rates of up to 1.4 Gbit/s.
