Abstract
We present Laughlin-Jastrow wave functions for incompressible fluid states of two-dimensional electrons at Landau-level filling factor 1/m that satisfy periodic boundary conditions. This rederivation of Laughlin-type states emphasizes that it is correct short-distance behavior of the wave functions rather than angular momentum considerations that lie behind the explanation of the fractional quantized effect. Keywords
