Abstract
The need for a system for communication of symptoms in an analogue form is discussed. As a symptom is a feeling, whose severity must be without definable category, the use of a discrete system imposes limitation. The use of an analogue system is advocated, such as a visual analogue scale, with reasons based on experience measuring depression, anxiety, asphyxia, insomnia and feelings aroused by film sequences.
