Abstract
Two young adults developed neurological disorders consisting of cerebellar dysfunction, optic neuropathy, and dementia secondary to chronic inhalation of spray paint (toluene). Computed tomographic brain scans showed pontomedullary atrophy. Both patients had abnormal brainstem auditory evoked potentials. Although chronic toluene abuse can cause various neurological abnormalities, until now there has been little evidence that the brainstem can also be affected. Keywords
