Duodenal Ulcer with Malignant Degeneration

Abstract
The clinical diagnosis of malignant degeneration of an ulcer of the bulbus duodeni is almost impossible. A progressive course with emaciation is usually ascribed to stenosis due to scar formation in a benign ulcer. The very low incidence of malignant degeneration of duodenal ulcers may be consistent with the observation, that in contrast with gastric ulcers, proliferation of atypical glandular epithelium in the margins of the duodenal ulcer occurs, but rarely and to a very slight degree; furthermore callous changes in a duodenal ulcer are not often seen.
