On the validity of the ‘law of constant normal stress’ for the tensile cleavage of zinc single crystals

Abstract
It is shown that, despite the author's conclusions, Markytan's (1966) results appear to confirm the previous observations (Bullen 1963) of a law of constant normal stress at fracture for crystals which deform more than a few per cent before cleavage at-196°c.
