Abstract
The incidence of the sickle-cell trait in East Africa among 35 different native tribes is recorded. In regions where malaria is hyperendemic the incidence is over 10%, but where malaria appears only in epidemic form the incidence of the sickle-cell trait is less than 10%. Sickle-cell condition seems to be correlated with some degree of immunity to malaria.
