Abstract

Marijuana has been known to science and medicine for almost 5000 yr. It is reported in the Chinese Emperor Nung''s Herbal dated 2737 B.C. It was not given the name Cannabis sativa L. until Linnaeus named it in 1753 A.D. References to the medicinal uses of the plant and its products in some of the older Materia Medica texts and journals are presented.
