Abstract
The single-frequency principle was evaluated for school children by conducting pure-tone air-conduction tests on every 4th subject failing a standardized 5-frequency sweep test. Of 1517 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade children, threshold results were obtained on 90 ears in 62 subjects. There were significant differences between the mean threshold losses from 500 through 8000 cps, for the loss at 4000 cps is greater than the mean threshold loss at any of the other 4 frequencies. The validity of the single-frequency principle, at least under the conditions of this study, appears to be established. Keywords
