Abstract
The composition of the follicular fluid is a problem which has been difficult to solve. This depends to a great extent on the difficulty of obtaining sufficient amounts for chemical analysis. However, certain results have been obtained. Oertel (1924) found 10—40 per cent dry substance in the follicular fluid, chiefly pseudomucin and proteins. Cholesterol (Parhon, 1925) and α-estradiol (MacCorquodale, Thayer & Doisy, 1936) have also been found in the follicular fluid. It has been found to possess both hemostryptic action (Mayer, 1919, Wintz, 1920) and anticoagulant properties (Palla, 1947).
