Abstract
A mechano-lattice analysis is used for simulating one million traverses of a wheel load along an asphaltic pavement. It is shown in the example presented that the accumulation of residual stresses and strains may cause severe crack provocation to the asphaltic layer in its early life when the asphaltic layer behaves more elastically than the base and subgrade. This situation should improve in the remaining life when the asphaltic layer behaves more plastically than the base and subgrade. These situations can be controlled by the engineer by considering relative plastic behaviour of pavement components in any design procedure if fatigue life is to be maximized. Keywords
