Abstract
The dose dependency of changes in the resting potential of N. flexilis induced by Co gamma-rays at a dose rate of approximately 6 kr/minute in the dose range from 1 to 800 kr is described. The drop in resting potential, which began immediately at the start of irradiation, increased up to approximately 20 mv by 50 kr. With doses from 50 to 200 kr there was no further drop. With doses from 200 up to 800 kr the potential decreased faster and faster and dropped suddenly to zero. The bath solution in which the cell was irradiated influenced the magnitude of the observed effect in the range from 1 to 30 kr. The time required to reach the peak also increased with increasing doses. A hypothesis for the reason for the difference in effects in the ranges from 1 to 50 kr and from 200 to 800 kr is given. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
