EFFET DE L'ACTH SUR LA FORMATION ET L'ÉVOLUTION DES GRANULOMES À CELLULES GÉANTES CHEZ LE RAT

Abstract
Talc granulomas were produced by the intraperit. injn. of 0.8 g. of talc suspended in 3 ml. of physiol. NaCl soln. One group was treated with Organon ACTH (0.4 mg. injd. 5 times daily -total vol. 1 ml.) immediately after the intraperit. injn. of talc, for 5, 10 and 15 days before sacrifice. Others were not given ACTH until 15 days after the talc injn. Controls included untreated rats, and animals given inactive protein injn. Immediate admn. of ACTH prevents peritoneal adhesions and the development of the granulomas is retarded. ACTH has no effect if given after the granulomas and adhesions have formed. The action of ACTH seems particularly directed against the formation of new blood vessels in the inflammatory area.
