Visual symptoms and tissue manganese concentrations associated with manganese toxicity in wheat

Abstract
Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was grown in nutrient solution in the greenhouse. Mn concentrations in the nutrient solutions used ranged from 0.0025 to 50,000 mg/1. Visual symptoms associated with high tissue Mn content were stunting, general chlorosis, necrotic leaf spots, white flecking, purpling, and leaf tip burn. Mn tissue concentrations of 380 mg/kg were found to reduce dry matter production by 10%.
