Abstract
1)A daily rhythm in heat tolerance occurs in Fundulus heteroclitus acclimated to temperatures of 12°C or 27°C; the rhythm persists at least 30 days in the laboratory in the absence of any thermal fluctuation. 2) The significance of the rhythm appears to be anticipation of daily temperature changes in a highly fluctuating thermal environment. 3) A normal photoperiod is necessary for the full expression of the rhythm, although it appears to have a weak endogenous component which persists in darkness. Keywords
