Preprocessing and volume rendering of 3D ultrasonic data

Abstract
The "noisy and blurry" nature of biomedical ultrasonic data makes the rendering of 3D models difficult. The volume rendering system described in this article generates high-quality images in seconds on desktop systems. Our work aims to develop techniques for 3D reconstruction of parts during routine examinations. We intend to improve the quality of the reconstruction, reduce the required manual input, and increase the computational speed as well as availability for a wide range of standard platforms in order to provide a system that is usable under clinical conditions. This case study focuses particularly on off-line filtering and semiautomatic segmentation methods
