Metabolic Clearance Rate and Production Rate of Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone in Man

Abstract
Metabolic clearance rates (MCR) and production rates (PR) of human thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) were determined in seven subjects with normal thyroid function, six thyrotoxic patients and three others suffering from long-standing myxedema. Three patients with severe renal insufficiency were also investigated. Using the h-TSH Research Standard-A as reference, the PR in normal subjects averaged 419 mU of TSH per day. The results obtained in cases of abnormal thyroid function stress the interest of this type of investigation in the evaluation of the TSH production rate.
