The Development and Validation of the Educational Attitudes Inventory

Abstract
Fifty-six items describing various aspects of the educational process were rated by 290 teachers and subsequently subjected to a factor analysis. The four scales derived through this procedure were combined to form the Educational Attitudes Inventory, a 35-item, self-report instrument. Scales labeled Affective and Cognitive assess commitment to emotional development and inductive learning, respectively. The Directive Scale assesses attitudes toward authority and control in the classroom, whereas the Interpretive Scale focuses on relevancy in learning. Construct validity and split-half reliabilities are reported for the scales.
