Abstract
This study utilized a technique by which one end of a polyethylene tube was placed in the inferior aorta, slightly above the renal arteries, and the other end exteriorized at the base of the neck. This prepn. permits the withdrawal of blood or the introduction of materials into the aorta without pain or discomfort to the unanesthetized animal. The renal flow patterns were outlined with India ink by injecting a small amt through the tube and guillotining the animals during the course of injn. The kidneys were then sectioned and studied microscopically. Several types of potential renal stimuli were applied to the 110 young, healthy animals discussed in this paper. Several different types of patterns are presented. Some of these are interpreted as indicating the operation of shunts. Keywords
