Semiconductor Surface Electrostatics

Abstract
Two surface electrostatics problems have been solved assuming linear lattice and electronic response: (a) the screening of the dielectric image potential is calculated for partially degenerate semiconductors; and (b) the bumpiness of the space charge equipotentials produced by discrete surface charges is analyzed. The autocorrelation function of the space charge potential is expressed in terms of the autocorrelation in occupation of surface lattice sites by adions. The significance of these considerations for surface scattering and chemisorption problems is discussed.
