Fluorouracil in Pregnancy: Effect on the Neonate

Abstract
To the Editor.—We have been unable to find a case report of fluorouracil intoxication in the neonate when the drug was administered in the treatment of a malignancy of the pregnant subject.Report of a Case.—The patient noted a small mass in the left breast during July 1968. Her previous health had been good and she had one child, aged 13 years. On Aug 15, radical mastectomy was performed with a microscopic diagnosis of "adenocarcinoma," but examination of the axillary glands was negative. The diagnosis of pregnancy was made two years later (Aug 14, 1970). On Dec 3, mediastinal lymphadenopathy was noted by x-ray film, and treatment with fluorouracil was instituted intravenously.
