Abstract
Two transplantable mammary tumors were developed from initial 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthraceneinduced neoplasms; they were characterized histologically and hormonally. Both tumors had good transplantability, with 65–75% of third-generation tumor fragments growing by the end of 21 days. One tumor was characterized histologically as a sarcoma. It was the faster growing of the two and did not respond to ovariectomy, estrogen administration, or anterior pituitary (AP) kidney capsule grafts; also, it did not contain detectable estrogen receptors. The other tumor, characterized as an adenoma, grew more slowly; ovariectomy retarded its growth, estradiol and AP grafts stimulated its growth, and it had a high concentration of estrogen receptors. Keywords
