Abstract
No evidence for chemical quenching of Hg 63P1 by CF4, CF3H or CF2H2 has been found. Chemical quenching by CH3F gives rise to a wide variety of fluorinated and non-fluorinated products. The quenching rate constant is approximately 1 × 105 l. mole–1 sec–1. A mechanism for formation of reaction products is proposed involving quenching via C—H bond fission and the participation of singlet methylene generated from chemically activated methyl fluoride. Keywords
