System Dynamics modelling and the management of an on-line information service

Abstract
In a research project based at University College London. work has been done on the application of a particular computer-based modelling technique, known as System Dynamics, in the library and information field. This article is concerned with the use of System Dynamics modelling to highlight the basic management problems associated with the development of an on-line information service in a library. It lays particular emphasis on the need for long-term planning in the use of this and other new technologies. The article also provides a general introduction to System Dynamics modelling, and suggests that it has considerable potential in the study of information systems.
