Abstract
The anterior surface of the forearm of one patient and the thigh of a second patient were used as test sites for radiation reaction of skin. In normal skin three 1.5-cm circular fields received 2000, 2500, and 3000 rads (60 kv, 2 cm TSD). With an orthopedic tourniquet applied above the test areas, a parallel set of 3 fields were treated with 4000, 5000, and 6000 rads. The skin reaction in the areas treated under normal conditions were a little more severe than in those treated while a tourniquet was in place. These results give an oxygen effect factor of [greater than or equal to] 2 for 60 kv.
