Abstract
This paper argues that programming is not only feasible but a necessary component in elementary mathematics teacher training. The paper also presents a model for a teacher training course which emphasizes the meta‐morphic stages of readiness that programming must go through to be of benefit to pre‐service teachers. Keywords
