Abstract
MERLIN observations are presented of the 1665-MHz OH maser emission from W75N. The measurements reveal many masers not seen in previous maps of W75N. The new data are not consistent with the rotating disc model which has previously been proposed for this source. The 1665-MHz masers are concentrated around the western and southern edges of the associated compact H II region, and their velocities indicate that outflow rather than rotation is the dominant motion. It is most likely that the masers lie in a compressed region behind an expanding shock front, as suggested by Elitzur & de Jong (1978). A magnetic field of ∼3 mG is detected in the maser regions, which may affect both the gas dynamics and the shock chemistry. Clustering of the masers is also observed. Keywords
