Abstract
The principle of pole-amplitude modulation has now emerged with such generality that it can be applied to almost every type of rotating electrical machine. The paper discusses its application to reluctance motors, and, as a typical example, describes the theory and design methods of a single-winding 2-speed reluctance motor for 4/6 poles, together with tests to compare the performance of this machine with the corresponding single-speed reluctance motors.
