Description of sample and antibody patterns with arboviruses, polioviruses, respiratory viruses, tetanus and treponematosis. Amer J Epidem 93: 111–121, 1971.—A serum survey has been carried out on samples of 3, 310 Argentine recruits entering the service in 1965 and in 1966. Sera from 236 recruits, representative of this collection, tested against 5 group A, 6 group B, and one California antigen in HI tests revealed 3 group A and 53 group B positives; 26 had serologically diagnostic titers against St. Louis encephalitis antigen. Of 324 sera tested for poliovirus, 83% had type 1, 81% type 2, and 91% type 3 antibodies. In a similar sample tested for myxoviruses, influenza A and parainfluenza HI antibodies were present in over 88% of the sera and group B influenza antibodies (B/GL/54) in 64%. Tetanus antibody sufficient to protect was present in 42% of 94 recruit sera prior to Army immunization and in 80% of 236 after immunization. VDRL tests on sera of 3, 209 recruits were reactive in 2.6%, and by FTA in 2.3%.
