Abstract
Papillomas were induced in the skin of the mouse by a single application of 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene followed by repeated applications of croton oil. When the concentration of croton oil was altered, the yield of papillomas was changed, but not the period during which they appeared. A similar result was found when the concentration of the carcinogen was varied, but the croton oil treatment was kept constant. It is considered that in experiments of this sort, croton oil does not necessarily make all the cells changed by the initial application of carcinogen visible as papillomas.
