Chemicals Tested for Control of Black Currant Gall Mite,Cecidophyopsis Ribis(Westw.)

Abstract
Summary Field screening trials are described in which 49 compounds were applied as sprays or as soil drenches during the dispersal period of the mite. Infestations were reduced by six chemicals, of which benomyl, the only one likely to become available for commercial use on black currants, received further test. Four applications between the grape stage and the end of the blossom period, as used in the normal fungicide programme, reduced galled buds by about 70%; the addition of endosulfan at full bloom or at the end of the blossom period gave control similar to that obtained with two sprays of endosulfan.
