Photo-activation of lattice oxygen in vanadium oxide supported on silica

Abstract
The active oxygen species in the photo-oxidation of carbon monoxide over vanadium oxide supported on silica was confirmed to be lattice oxygen activated by photons. The reaction proceeded by a reduction–oxidation mechanism. The most effective irradiating wavelength was ca. 340 nm. The mechanism of photo-reduction of the catalyst was investigated by a kinetic study.
