Abstract
The injection of vincristine was followed by degeneration of the organ of Corti and of the nerve fibers of the bony spiral lamina. The nerve cells of the spiral ganglion and their axons showed various stages of degeneration. The degeneration of the organ of Corti following vincristine injection could be due to the direct effect of the drug on that organ or could be secondary to the degeneration of the spiral ganglion cells. Although an indirect degenerative effect of vincristine on the organ of Corti could not be excluded at this stage, a direct action of the drug on the organ is possible because of greater degeneration in the organ of Corti than in the spiral ganglion after 3 vincristine injections. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
