FINITE AXISYMMETRIC DEFORMATIONS OF AN INITIALLY CYLINDRICAL ELASTIC MEMBRANE

Abstract
The theory of finite deformations of elastic membranes is applied to membranes which are initially cylindrical and are deformed into axisymmetric bodies. An exact general solution of the equations is obtained for the case in which the elastic material has the Mooney form of the strain-energy function. For illustration, this solution is applied to the problem of inflation of a cylinder of finite length sealed at each end by rigid plugs.
