Quantitation of Beat-to-Beat Changes in Stroke Volume From the Aortic Pulse Contour in Man

Abstract
A method has been described for beat-to-beat estimation of changes in stroke volume in man from a recording of a central and one peripheral arterial pressure pulse. A single detn. of cardiac output by an accepted independent method at one point in the procedure is required to derive a pressure-volume factor for each individual. Although the results presented show good agreement (standard deviation 9%) between the pressure pulse and the control methods, it is recommended that when used under conditions different from those already tested the pressure pulse method should be carefully controlled, at least at the outset, with simultaneous detns. by the Fick or dye method.
