Abstract
An outbreak of chronic skin ulceration in a well-established specified-pathogen-free colony of rats is described. A coagulase-positive staphylococcus was associated with the outbreak, which occurred during winter months and quickly subsided. Various theories are advanced to account for the outbreak, the cause of which was not firmly established. Keywords
