Abstract
By modifying the usual shell model treatment, so as to take into account the correlation of the position coordinates of the constituent particles, the binding energy and other properties of the lower energy levels of Li6 are calculated. Using two body central and tensor interactions, the parameters of which are adjusted to the low energy two body deta, fairly good agreement with experiment is obtained for the binding energy. However, the splitting between the second excited and the ground states is far too small, because of the large cancellation of the tensor S-D interference terms, and this is reflected in the too large value of the magnetic moment of the ground state. The quadrupole moment is very small in agreement with experiment, although it might be considered as an incidental agreement. Keywords
