In vitro and In vivo Activity of Candicidin on Pathogenic Fungi

Abstract
Candicidin, tested in vitro against a variety of pathogenic fungi, was found to be active against the major pathogens (Candida. Blastomyces, Histoplasma Cryptococcus, Geotrichum) but not against Coccidioides immitis and the ringworm fungi. Against Candida albicans. candicidin was fungicidal as well as fungistatic. This antibiotic protected mice infected with C. albicans, Blastomyces dermatitidis and Sporotrichum schenckii but it had only a partial protective effect on exptl. torulosis and histoplasmosis of mice.
