Abstract
Psychiatric services for elderly people are based on principles which are relevant to the management of chronic disorders such as Parkinson's disease. Psychological and biological factors are closely intertwined in dementia, as they are in PD. Although medical diagnosis is important the emphasis is on continuing support. The aim is to provide services within the community where they are needed, and to acknowledge the importance of carers and family for assessment and management. Keywords
