Abstract
This article discusses the role of interpretation in research in the history of education. Drawing on ideas and methodological suggestions from Paul Ricoeur and Hans‐Georg Gadamer, it suggests a way to deal with the matter of validity in interpretation. As a case‐study example, the article interprets an excerpt from the record of a witch trial in Stockholm in the 1670s.Keywords
