Associated DiseasesHiatal HerniaIt is generally held that hiatal hernia is an integral part of the mucosal ring and that the presence of a ring constitutes definite evidence of hiatus hernia.3,10,57, 67 Since most mucosal rings are located at the squamocolumnar junction, and the rings are always seen well above the diaphragmatic shadow, MacMahon et al.21 argued that hiatal hernia is always associated with a ring. However, this conclusion assumes that the squamocolumnar junction corresponds to the junction of the stomach and esophagus. There is evidence to suggest that this may not be so.29,30, 68 In proved cases of hiatal hernias, . . .Keywords
