Abstract
Diploid yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae was irradiated with u.v., x-rays or α-particles to yield a colony-forming ability of about 50 per cent. RNA-synthesis per cell after irradiation was measured. After u.v. and x-rays, it is increased for 26s, 17s and < 5s RNA. The increase for < 5s RNA is higher than for the other types measured. Photoreactivation after u.v.-exposure leads to an even higher increase. α-irradiation results in a decrease of RNA-synthesis per cell; the reduction is the same for 26s-, 17s- and < 5s-RNA.Keywords
