Abstract
Water-soluble polysaccharides were isolated from the lichens U. pustulata (UP) and U. spodochroa (US). Both species contained partly O-acetylated pustulan, a linear .beta.-1,6-glucan. Quantitative determination of the acetyl groups indicates 1 O-acetyl per 10-11 glucose units for both UP and US, the content being reduced to 1 per 14-15 glucose units after extraction of the crude lichens with methanol. Both the pustulans are acetylated in the 4-O-position. The MW distribution determined by gel filtration gave for UP 1 fraction corresponding to .apprx. 3 .cntdot. 104 (.hivin.Mn) and 1 fraction of very high MW US showed a very broad distribution curve. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
