Abstract
In this note, the expected - and -meson multiplicities resulting from the annihilation of a nucleon pair at rest have been calculated on the basis of two versions of the statistical theory: the Fermi and the Pomeranchuk-Landau models. The Fermi model yields smaller pion multiplicities and larger probabilities for -meson pairs than does the Pomeranchuk-Landau model.
