Abstract
POSTTRAUMATIC STRESS disorder (PTSD) is highly comorbid with other psychiatric disorders, including drug dependence.1-11 Studies of Vietnam veterans provided the initial evidence of the comorbidity between PTSD and drug use disorders.8,12-16 Breslau et al1 previously reported evidence of this comorbidity in a community sample of young adults, a finding that has been confirmed in other epidemiological studies.2,17 However, little is known about the causal pathways that might explain the observed comorbidity.
