Nitrogen Fixation by Ceanothus

Abstract
The genus Ceanothus, comprising a large number of species of wide distribution, probably makes a significant N. contribution to many native associations. Direct examination of nodules from roots of a number of species (using isotopic N) has made it possible to demonstrate a significant fixation of N with every species examined. Potential significance of this N-fixing capacity is discussed.
