Histamine in Human Urine

Abstract
An improved assay method combined with careful control of the patient''s activities and medications has made it possible to detect increased histamine excretion during induced asthma in a few patients. The highly artificial nature of these circumstances makes it unlikely that urinary histamine assay can be relied upon to give much useful information about endogenous histamine release. Measurement of urinary histamine concentration without these controls gives erratic results appararently due to the large amounts of histamine formed by gastrointestinal bacteria.
